What the test will measure
Each pack starts with a recorded net dry-ice mass. At each checkpoint we record remaining mass, ambient temperature, box condition, whether the lid was opened, shade/sun exposure and any handling event. This lets readers separate an observed field result from a universal duration claim.
Test matrix
| Pack | 0 hr | 2 hr | 4 hr | 6 hr | 12 hr | 18 hr | 24 hr |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2kg | Measured mass | Measured mass | Measured mass | Measured mass | Measured mass | Measured mass | Measured mass |
| 5kg | Measured mass | Measured mass | Measured mass | Measured mass | Measured mass | Measured mass | Measured mass |
| 10kg | Measured mass | Measured mass | Measured mass | Measured mass | Measured mass | Measured mass | Measured mass |
Controls to record
- Exact starting dry-ice mass and pellet format.
- EPS/thermopole box model and dimensions.
- Ambient temperature and shaded vs direct-sun exposure.
- Whether a payload is present and its starting temperature.
- Every lid-opening event.
- Vehicle/staging conditions and ventilation.
Why we are publishing the method first
Dry ice duration varies with insulation, surface area, heat load, ambient conditions and handling. Publishing the method prevents a marketing estimate from being presented as measured science. Once a physical test is completed, the dated raw observations and limitations will be added here.
